Vincent Calvin Lee Dash Dotson

  AKA/ MC Dot A Roc

Born Vincent Dash on February 2, 1963 in Jamaica NY.  To Barbara Dash & Elijah Balding & was given the name Dotson by Felix Dotson (heavyweight Boxer of Harlem).

Vincent Calvin Lee Dash Dotson was raised by his single mother & grew up in St. Albans on 109 Ave & 175st.  He attended Susan B Anthony middle school and played football for the Springfield Riffles.

He play for the police youth basketball league.  His basketball skills were super.  They gave him a nickname (fish) for the way his arms would curve like a fish.  He was a great swimmer as well.

Vincent soon changes his name to AKA/ Mc Dot A Roc A rapper he & his friends formed a group called the Apollo sounds. In the 1980’s he sat out to make it on stage to rap, were he met other newcomers as he; who are well know artist today these events were in Jamaica.

Vincent attended Bayside High School where he played football, when in the 11 grade he had a great chance to get a football scholarship he had the skills that would take him far.  Vincent couldn’t decide between Rap and football.  He was also an experience chef & an artist of great skills.

His mother needed to put extra skills in his hands she bought him his first set of barber clippers where he work at a barber shop on 110 Ave & 174st.  Anything to keep him off the street she gave it to him. 

Vincent cave into the life to use drugs & sell he wanted a better life for his self and was already a father; he decided to leave NYC and flowed his mother to her roots and moved to Rochester NY.

In Rochester NY Vincent after a few years found his self in the life of a cell block.  After 18 months he turned his self around and giving his life over to God with the help of his family never to return again.  Vincent got a job to sharpen his skills at Griffin’s Barber shop where he would get prepare to get his master license.

Vincent said if it was not for Mr. Griffin willing to give him a chance a person with a Prison record and teaching him like his own son with guiding him on how to open a business and by doing that he show nothing but love to help others.

In 2004 Vincent mother gave him money to open up Vinney’s barber shop. 584 Lake Ave the grand opening was in February.

They called him Vinney, he would give jobs off the street and teach a barber who didn’t have skills and help them get there papers.   Working in his business he was all ways rapping to the customers and would still going to the studio to record his music.   



There were several stories on Vincent from the news and radio station.  He gave away free bikes to kids, he work with the community for violence.  In 2006 Founder Willie Lightfoot Jr. and Co- founder Vincent started cut the violence, free haircuts for kids on certain holidays.  But Vincent would do free haircuts every week.  Mayor Duffy of Rochester would come to sponsor the free hair cuts.

He received an award for his service.  He also said he is not ashamed to tell his story that the kids can only learn if you keep it real.  He volunteer with the boys & girls club, Hillside children center program “Pathway to peace".   Vincent received a letter by past president George Bush which praise him for turning his life around and with the letter was an invitation for dinner to the white house.

On Dec 27, 08 at Vinney’s Barber shop, his 2nd new location on dewy Ave, 4 men came into the shop to rob him.  He died by a gun.  They killed a wonderful loving man over $ 200.00 dollars.

Three suspects have been found guilty.

Every year 6 kids from Rochester NY.  2 each from 5 boroughs of NYC on a lottery drawing will be chosen.  That youth gets 1 year free service.   Advertising & radio announcements will be given in detail.
