The Fugees " Wyclef Jean is looking to follow in the same footsteps as fellow
hip-hop businessmen Jay-Z and Diddy, announcing plans to open up his own restaurant
in New York City.
According to Clef, the hot spot will cater toward various cultures once it
opens in 2013.
"I have an announcement. In six months to nine months,
I will be opening my own place in New York City," Clef revealed. "The
reason why I "m doing this is because back in the days, we had like the original
Copacabana. And I feel that we can use a spot in New York that has culture
-- where it "s deejay culture, it "s band culture, it "s lounge culture, it "s
vibe -- where it "s an eclectic vibe. So I "m just letting y "all know in advance.
So we "ll have international night, where all cultures share. So I look forward
to seeing y "all, with food, music, and vibe. And It "s going to be called The
Refugee Lounge. It will be in Manhattan. Right now, we "re negotiating."

Some websites have already started brainstorming various dish suggestions
for the restaurant "s menu.
Well, assuming the name is a nod to his band (and not, you
know, the state of many citizens of his native Haiti), we have a few menu
ideas: -"Killing Me Soft-(Boiled Eggs)" -"Fu-Gee-La(sagne)"
-"The Sweetest Thing (Chocolate Lava Cake)" -"Strumming My
Pain With His (Chicken) Fingers" -"Ready Or Not (Twice Baked Potato)"
-"No Woman, No Fry (Baked Chicken)" -"Gonna Find You And Take
It Slow (Cooked Braised Ribs)" "Bless You If You Represent the Fu(silli
with Grilled Chicken and Pesto Cream Sauce)" (Paper Mag)
Along with Diddy "s Justin "s and Jay "s 40/40 Club spots, other high-profile
musicians have opened their own restaurants in the Big Apple.
Jean--who also compared himself to Martin Luther King,
Jr. and Malcolm X during the same interview--believes that the musician-backed
restaurant business is the way to go. Since, you know, there "s not many of
those going on (Justin Timberlake "s Southern Hospitality, Jay-Z "s 40/40 Club,
Lady Gaga "s dad "s Joanne, Pete Wentz "s Angels and Kings) in the city that
never sleeps. No one sleeps there because they "re worried about the lack of
culture. (Hollywood)
Outside of food, Clef is expected to appear in a new television series called
"Nashville."
Wyclef Jean will join ABC "s country music drama Nashville
for a recurring role as a the head of a record label, according to The Hollywood
Reporter. Jean also tweeted a picture alongside cast members Sam Palladio,
Clare Bowen, Jonathan Jackson and Rya Kihlstedt. Though he "ll appear in multiple
episodes, there "s no word yet on when Jean "s character will debut. (Rolling
