How Doug E. Fresh, Kangol Kid & Roxanne Shante Spent Their XMAS

Harlem, New York, On Tuesday, December 18, 2012 - 4:00 PM, Hip-Hop Legends Doug E. Fresh, Kangol Kid and Roxanne Shante proved that "It takes a Village to raise a child, " as they recognize the village of Harlem, New York "s Mosaic Preparatory Academy and its 22 Honor Roll Students by honoring them with an evening of "dinner and music" in a way that only Hip-Hop can.

Doug E. Fresh opened his Doug E "s Chicken & Waffles Restaurant (located on 2245 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd, Harlem, New York 10030) to the Honor Roll students who helped his fellow Hip-Hop Legend/friend Kangol Kid (co-founder of the Mama Luke Foundation) reach the American Cancer Society "s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer "s Top 5 fund-raising team status in Newark, NJ by creating "Pink Day" in their school (as seen in this link: http://youtu.be/JDenaAyiij0).

After the children enjoyed their chicken and waffle meal, Kangol Kid removed his Kangol cap and replaced it with a "Pink Santa Hat " as he transformed into "Kangol Claus ". Kangol "s little helpers DJ Diamond (Beyonc "s DJ) and Roxanne Shante were on hand to give the Harlem elementary students gifts for their good deeds. "When we teach our children how to share and give, we teach our children how to care and live ", said Shante. Each child received a backpack courtesy of FILA USA, which was filled with gifts from Rock and Soul Records, Modell "s, Xtatic Collection, VIBE Magazines, and of course they all received a Kangol hat from Kangol Headwear, USA. The gift-giving continued as Kangol Claus presented Roxanne Shantee and School "s Principal Lisette Caesar with a pair of FILA Skeletoes.

The Honor Roll students of Mosaic Preparatory Academy and their principal returned the favor as they teamed up with V.P. of Sales & Marketing Cedric King of AZAD Watches and presented Doug E. Fresh with a watch from Rapper/Actor Ice-T "s ICE Edition Watch Collection. "I ran little late getting here. You kids must have known I needed this watch. (LOL) Thank you all so much ", said Doug E. Mr. King and Ice-T "s business partner Mickey Bentson also announced the Mama Luke "PINK " ICE Edition Watch would debut in the fall of 2013. At such time the FILA USA Mama Luke brand footwear should be ready to march breast cancer walks nationwide.

This event was a tribute to the memory of Gay Frances Lucas (affectionately known as "Mama Luke ") who lost her three-year battle with breast cancer over two years ago which fueled a movement that has become Hip-Hop "s largest fight against the disease. Mama Luke "s Daughter Minister Shaunda Lumpkin is the movement "s co-founder and Kangol "s Business Manager, and has represented Roxanne Shante as well. As Shante (who is a breast cancer survivor) reflects on her days with Ms. Gay Lucas, she says, "A wise woman told me it wasn "t my time yet and God has so much more for me to do here. So I want to say to that wise woman - Mama Luke, I know you "re watching "and I "m doing it. Thank you. "

The evening "s festivities were streamed live on www.djdiamondtheartist.com courtesy of DJ Diamond who entertained the students with the art of Turntable Scratching. Then the sweet event ended with more sweets as dozens of miniature cupcakes and one large MAMA LUKE logo cake was unveiled courtesy of Harlem "s own Tonnie "s Minis Cupcake Shop & Bakery.

An important part of the Mama Luke Foundation "s fundraising and awareness efforts is a pink t-shirt which has been signed by over 200 Hip-Hop greats including: Will Smith, Mark Wahlberg, L.L. Cool J, Kid Rock, Ice-T, Lauryn Hill, Flava Flav, Missy Elliot...and more. The shirt has become symbol of the Mama Luke Foundation "s fight against breast cancer and is now referred to as the "Weapon Against Breast Cancer" (WABC). The shirt will be auctioned in the future with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
