Pharoahe Monch Finished With Ghostwriting For Others,
Plans To Release "W.A.R." Upgrade For Free
Monch
reveals plans to give away a revamped version of his latest LP.
Pharoahe Monch has lent his writing skills to artists in need of some better
lyrics in the past, but he’s finished with ghostwriting. Speaking with
TaleTela,
the Queens, New York native explained that providing Diddy with rhymes for 2006’s
Press Play would be the last time he would ever take a check for helping others
with their writing.
“That’ll probably be the last time I ever do it,” Monch explained.
“Why’s that? Because it’s such a gut-wrenching process. You
have to do your best but yet you have to then part with it. [...]I’m done
with that. Plus, because of the shift in the economy, in terms of beats there
aren’t too many people that can pay a premium for that shit.”
With his latest joint, W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) in stores now, Monch is working
on his next album and is coming up with ideas for an “upgrade” of
the album that he wants to give away online for free.
“I wanna start working on some ideas for this ‘W.A.R.’ upgrade
that I want to give out for free,” Monch said. “Hopefully this summer
and there are no restraints as we’re just gonna put it out there for free.”
