A Celebration of Hip-Hop in the Arts
Brooklyn
Bodega unveils “Under The Influence” an art exhibit
as part of the 7th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival on Tuesday, July
12th at The powerhouse Arena. The summer’s largest group art
show in DUMBO, the Opening Reception is from 6-10PM as part of the Festival’s
week-long programming. Over 50 outstanding artists are taking over this
two floor venue to reveal the influence Hip-Hop has had for them and across
multiple generations within the artistic community.
Sponsored by Gawker Artists, Under The Influence will celebrate
the release of Back in the Days: Remix, 10th Anniversary Edition with an exhibition
of Jamel Shabazz’s seminal street photography and a group show of Hip-Hop
inspired art curated by Mighty Tanaka Gallery and Royce Bannon. Music provided
by DJ Boogie Blind (The X-ecutioners).
“We are very excited about what all these artists will be bringing to
this show. Major contributions include the 907 Crew bringing their massive mural
“907 Was An Inside Joke”; Miguel Ovalle creating a new 3D installation
for us; Martha Cooper’s photo contribution adds a legendary perspective;
James Blagden projection screening reel; and James Top doing a piece for our
window display. Through this varied body of work, we hope guests will walk with
a sense of pride in the heritage of Hip-Hop as well as profound inspiration
from the artists putting in work today.” - Corrie Zaccaria, “Under
The Influence” Event Captain, The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival
