Dr. Dre Honors Snoop Dogg During BMI Urban Awards

(AllHipHop News) Toronto, Canada rapper Drake was the big winner last night (August 27th) at the BMI Urban Awards at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood.

Rapper Snoop Dogg was honored as a BMI Icon during the event, which featured an all-star tribute performance to Snoop featuring some of Hip-Hop "s biggest stars.

A number of legendary rappers assembled on the stage at the Pantages Theater and performed a medley of Snoop Dogg "s hit singles, including "Gin and Juice," "Murder Was the Case," the classic single "Nuthin " But a G Thing," and others, in addition to a moving tribute to the late Dogg Pound member Nate Dogg.

Game, Lady of Rage, Warren G, Nas, Wiz Khalifa, Too $hort, Kurupt, Daz Dillinger, Akon, Bootsy Collins, Charlie Wilson brought the crowd to their feet during the performance.

Super producer Dr. Dre hit the stage to thank Snoop Dogg for his many contributions to Hip-Hop music.

“It "s been a long time. Me and Snoop, we "ve been working together for 20 years now,” Dr. Dre said. “That says a lot especially being in this game. Talk about two guys who "ve been through it all, you know there "s a lot of history. When it comes to an iconic Hip-Hop figure, it "s hard to beat this man. He not only stands for West Coast Hip-Hop, he stands for the entire Hip-Hop community.”

Snoop himself thanked Dr. Dre, the D.O.C., Death Row Records and even the label "s estranged founder, Marion "Suge" Knight.

“As I look out in the crowd right now I "m really happy and excited, looking back at all this footage and seeing all the people who came out tonight, this is really heart warming and s**t," Snoop Dogg said, thanking his wife, Shante, who attend the black-tie affair with Snoop and other close family members.

During the evening, Drake earned his first BMI Urban songwriter of the Year Award, while 22-year-old B.o.B. became the youngest songwriter ever to win BMI Urban Song of the Year for his single “Nothing on You,” featuring Bruno Mars.

Lex Luger was named producer of the year, while Chuck D accepted an award for his writing credit on Ludacris " hit single “How Low.”

Other winners during the evening included Far East movement, Kane Beatz, Justice League, DJ Khaled, Ace Hood, Eminem, Sade, Nicki Minaj and others.
