Hip
hop icon 50 Cent and legendary singer Chaka Khan appeared together on this
week’s VH1 Divas red carpet. The two attending the taping together already
caused enough commotion, and when they announced that they are currently working
on a project, a more apparent uproar was brought about.
According to the words of 50 Cent during an interview with MTV News, “We’re
working together. We’re working on a project. Yeah, now.”
The two did not reveal a lot about the project to keep it as a surprise.
However, they quipped that the industry can expect “big things”
and “hit music” off the collaboration.
50 Cent shared that he was the one who initiated the collaboration, and he
was the one who reached out to the world-renowned diva. “I reached out
to her and made sure I could actually come with her tonight…I wanted
to come, hang out with her,” Fif explained.
He also expressed how much he feels the need to collaborate with an established
music act such as Khan. As he puts it, “You know you gotta stand next
to ‘the fire’ to keep warm. You see what I’m saying? It’s
getting cold out here. It’s winter time. It’s really exciting
to keep yourself in company around people that have the same artistic integrity
that you wanna be associated with.”
Some may find this news surprising, but this is not Chaka Khan’s first
time to work with hip hop artists. In the past, Khan has collaborated with
De La Soul for “All Good” and with Guru for “Watch What
You Say.” Kanye West can also be remembered to have included a sample
of her music (lines from “Through the Fire”) in his, too.
