Nas Addresses Mysteriously Shelved Frank Ocean Collabo

Nas Addresses Mysteriously Shelved Frank Ocean Collabo, "It Would "ve Been A Big Record"

Rap veteran Nas recently discussed his unreleased Frank Ocean collaboration and considered how big of an anthem it could have been for the new Life Is Good LP.

Nas said he tagged Ocean for a joint effort during his pre-fame days.

Nas wouldn "t confirm that "White Jesus" was the exact track he had planned to record with Ocean, but admitted that a collaboration between him and Frank would be pretty big. "I "ve talked about a song with Frank Ocean about a year and a half before anybody worked with him and since then it "s been a heavily anticipated record, but I didn "t talk about which song actually," Esco told MTV News when he walked the carpet at the Moet Rose Lounge at Bagatelle in New York on Monday night. Nas confirmed that he and the Channel Orange singer never got a chance to complete their track. "Now, I "ve talked about us working and we never got to that point, completing a great record," he said before pondering the potential outcome. "Who knows? I guess it would "ve been a big record if it ever came to light." (MTV)

Earlier this month, Ocean said a technical problem kept the collabo from hitting airwaves.

There was also a collaboration with Nas, "No Such Thing as White Jesus," that was unfortunately lost to a technological mishap. Mr. Ocean expressed regret that album deadlines prevented him from recreating the song from scratch, and he broke into song to capture what was lost: "Whatever you do, young king, don "t wind up dead/Young queen, cross your legs,/Put a crown on your head and remove the chains/ "Cause even diamond chains are for slaves,/Don "t set foot in no penitentiary/And don "t taste the poison/Don "t you bail on your families" (New York Times)

Last year, Nasty Nas gave him props on bringing new life to the entertainment business.

"Frank Ocean is just a new gust of wind to move things out the way and give us something new," the "Nasty" MC previously told Billboard of the Odd Future crooner, who "s worked with Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Beyoncé. During a recent interview with Toronto "s Flow 93.5, he elaborated on who he was referring to, saying, "Just the garbage, the garbage pail kids out there that "s everywhere." The discerning Nas bestowed praise on the "Novacane" singer. "Everybody just don "t have it, so somebody that comes out like Frank Ocean and does it his way and sings his way, it "s fresh, it "s good for the game," he explained. (Rap-Up)

Despite the unreleased record, Nas " new Life Is Good LP is slated to sell up to 125,000 copies in its opening week.

Nas " new Def Jam/IDJ album, Life is Good, is his 10th in an impressive career dating back to "94 "s now iconic Illmatic. It should debut at #1 on next week "s HITS Album sales chart with between 115-125k in sales, according to one-day sales figures provided by those music retailers who are still creating jobs, according to President Obama. The quintessential N.Y. rapper "s last album, Untitled, debuted in July four years ago with 187k in first-week sales. (HITS Daily Double)
