Rapper Beanie Sigel arrested after traffic stop on I-95

TINICUM TWP., Pa. - Rap star Beanie Sigel was arrested following a traffic stop early Wednesday morning on Interstate 95 in Delaware County.

It was around 3:15 a.m. when Pennsylvania State Troopers noticed a tan Ford Fusion following another vehicle too closely and swerving out of its lane of travel.

The Troopers pulled the Ford over and approached the vehicle. The driver, identified as Gerald Andrews of Philadelphia, was ordered out of the vehicle and a routine check for weapons revealed several prescription bottles and a small amount of marijuana in his possession.

Troopers then focused their attention to the passenger, identified as Dwight E Grant, also known as famous Philadelphia rapper "Beanie Sigel." Police searched Grant and found approximately $4,650 cash, a bottle of codeine syrup with a scratched off label, and several prescription pills wrapped in plastic bags located in a cigarette pack.

Both men were detained, and during a search of the vehicle Troopers found a firearm located in the center console. Andrews and Grant are both convicted felons and not allowed to possess a firearm.

Andrews and Grant were transported to Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Media to be processed and arraigned.

38-year-old Dwight Grant, of Lansdale, was due to report to prison on September 12, 2012 after being sentenced on tax evasion charges last month.

Back in August of 2011 Grant pleaded guilty to charges, which alleged that the rapper earned in excess of $1 million between 2003 and 2005, on which he failed to pay approximately $348,077 in federal income taxes. He also is accused of failing to file income tax returns from 1999 through 2002.

According to prosecutors, between 1999 and 2005, Grant earned more than $2.2 million in income, on which he paid only $10,000 in tax. The IRS says Grant still owes a total of $728,536 in taxes for those years.

In addition to the prison term, Grant was ordered to pay all taxes, penalties, and interest on the back taxes, but to date he has allegedly failed to do so.
