BHE-NYC was created by Robert Neeley (aka "Nils") + Joe Handy (aka "The Average Joe") in 2010. We have both worked creatively together & individually on different writing and music projects for years. Moreover, we grew together in Jamaica, Queens and have been friends and cohorts since we were kids. I believe that the reason we work well together is because of our common love for music and Hip-Hop.
Joe and I met over 30 years ago while playing little league baseball at Liberty Park. I couldn't afford cleats, so I played in a pair of old black buckle up shoes. Needless to say, I got joked on and laughed at by all the kids. Outside of the park, my shoes were the private joke we shared. It broke the ice and started our relationship.
From there, I met more buddies like LSB (Leroy, Shamik and Brent). Shamik's basement is were we would meet to DJ, rhyme, do mix tapes, practice, party and perfect our techniques. Who could forget Mesiah, Joe and me, aka The Jazzy 3 MC's? The high school years was when we went to house, block and backyard parties doing our routines off the hottest Hip-Hop break beats that were playing at the time.
On October 26, 1966 Joseph Handy grew up in a little area called Addesleigh Park in St. Albans, Queens, home of some of the greatest music stars in the world. Stars like James Brown and Lena Horne.
Joe Handy who is related to W.C Handy (father of the blues) has experienced bebop to Hip-Hop! His first block party was on the Brooklyn/Queens border with break dancers, break beats and artists showing off their artwork. Joe really expierenced the real beginning and true spirit of Hip-Hop . He's been to the apollo (see video below) and many shows in the city. His hobbies include writing songs, drawing and staying fit.

Nils was born on August 7th, 1966 in St. Albans, Queens. I had a lot of musical greats living in my neighborhood. Artists such as James Brown, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald and Brook Benton just to name a few. Whenever these legends threw a party they would invite all the kids living in the area to attend. While I had been exposed to many musical genres, I found myself draw most to Hip-Hop!
From King Tim III to rappers delight, I would stay up late to listen to Mr. Magic - "rap attack". I couldn't wait to got to school so i could hear the newest Cold Crush Brothers or Grand Master Flash tape. The DJ's would be battling other groups with hot beats while the MC's told us there dopest rhymes. I remember all the fun we had being at the park & block parties when they'd bring out their equipment.
Kurtis Blow, Run-DMC, KRS-One, Grandmaster Caz, Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Ice Cube, Digital Underground, Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, Wu-Tang Clan, Jay-Z, Biggle Smalls and 50 cent. There have been so many artists that have paved a way for me. All these and so many more have come and gone as the years rolled by. At first I saw these MC's do it for fun, freedom of expression, then recognition anf finally money.
Now, every part of our culture has embraced rap. this is 'big business' and not a passing fad. I've never lost my love for this or my desire to share my talents with the whole world. I kept writing, practicing, waiting for my time to come. She here we are, the story so far...continues, with me Robert Neeley (aka Nils), Black House Entertainment NYC, Steel Nuts, Mo-Bucks Productions...One.
